Multiple Options Exist to Get to Sorrento from the Airport

Your professional English-speaking driver will meet you at the arrival hall with a sign clearly displaying your name. You will then go to the luxury Mercedes that will be air-conditioned for your comfort.

Pros: Travel in style and see the coastline. This is a door-to-door service so they will drop you directly at your booked accommodation.

Cons: This may be the most expensive of the transport options at 145 Euro for up to 7 people but it takes away all the stress of travelling. If you choose to go by public transport, then it is also worth considering the distance from where you will arrive to your booked accommodation. Naturally, you will have your luggage to consider, and the streets are very narrow. Plus, taxis are expensive in Sorrento, starting at 15 Euro just for stepping inside the car

The ferries run from Beverello Port. There are many different ferry operators running to and from Sorrento so times may vary. You can find a list of options at: https://www.ferryhopper.com/en/ferry-routes/direct/ferry naples-sorrento-traghetti

Pros: Arrive by Sea, the journey time is only 45 minutes (but you must consider the journey to the port and at the other end.

Cons: The ferry brings you into Marina Piccola Sorrento. The walk from here to the main square Piazza Tasso is all up a very steep hill or flights of stairs which can be quite difficult in the heat. There is a lift (1.20 Euro) but you must walk approx. 5 minutes to get to it past the bathing platforms on a narrow pathway. The lift will take you to Villa Comunale (Cloisters of San Francesco) so you then must consider the walk to your accommodation from there.

The Curreri Viaggi Bus runs directly from Naples Airport main Bus Station (this can be found a little further up from the Alibus stop, about a 5-minute walk from the airport terminal) to Sorrento train station.

Pros: Cheap and easy to use

Cons: The buses can fill up very quickly so it would be advised to buy tickets before and not on the bus. Times are not very frequent, running about every two hours. The bus arrives 10 minutes before its departure and will not wait. So, make sure you have plenty of time from your flight arrival to get to the bus station and on the bus before it departs.

To do this, you will first have to use the public bus service from Naples Airport. The Alibus station is directly in front of the Airport terminal, a short walk up the main road and they run approximately 20 minutes to the Stazione Centrale (the main train station). Alternatively, you can continue, on the bus to Beverello/Stazione Marittima (the main ferry port).

You can buy Alibus tickets also at the airport, at the vending machines, located on the ground floor of the arrivals area. You can also buy the tickets on the bus, but they work out a little more expensive.

The UnicoAlibus tickets purchased on board the Alibus are €4,00. Tickets purchased at an authorised agent prior to boarding the Alibus are €3,00.

Travel time is around 30 minutes to the train station, depending on traffic.

Pros: Cheapest way to travel, you may like the hustle and bustle of experiencing public transport.

Cons: Expect queues at the bus stop and not much space on the bus as they can get very busy within the peak season (May – Oct). Also, space for luggage is limited.

The train to Sorrento can be taken from Garibaldi Station. To get here from the airport you can take the Alibus. Please see above. There are two trains you can choose from, the public Circumvesuviana or the Campania Express.

The Circumvesuviana is the public train and it runs every 30 minutes. The journey time can be anywhere between 1.15 - 1.5 hours depending on which train you get and the number of stops. The cost is 4.20 Euro for a one-way ticket and be sure to get this before boarding the train.

Pros: Cheapest way

Cons: Very busy, no luggage space, no toilets and generally no AC! Unfortunately pick pocketers are rife on this train so do be careful with your belongings as there has been pick pocket activity on these trains.

The Campania Express is a private service that was introduced to connect Naples to Sorrento and the historical sites i.e., Pompeii and Ercolano (Herculaneum). This train is not as frequent, but the journey time is much quicker (approx. 45 mins).

Pros: This train is less crowded, and you are more likely to get a seat and there are spaces for luggage

Cons: Cost 15 Euro for a one-way ticket, plus then adding the cost to get to the train station from the airport and then of course to your accommodation when you arrive in Sorrento.
